my camino (browser)

February 16, 2008

well, this thing purrs like a kitten and runs like a dream.

my bookmark bar quickly got out of control, as i was used to carrying a loong lefthand list in firefox

not even apple supports the mac

February 14, 2008

a quick search of my proveably stalwart 10.3.9 on apple.com leads neither to a chronological, nor versionological rendification of available downloads and updates, but rather a lone, outdated, somewhat orphan missive about how 10.3.9 IS the recommended update.

as readers of the previous hour can attest, this poetdog was able to find neither an update for her gimpy safari browser nor any reference towards other feasible options. let it be noted this tautological journey with safari was merely for testing purposes (with wikis). let it be known this poetdog has long abandoned both the safari browser and certainly the incongruous ie:mac, as both are irrefutably buggy for her browsing habits and clog up her mojo. if one would like to know just what browsing habits these are, one need only check in with either googleIA, the republican party, or perhaps apple itself. if you want to know about the mojo, you are on your own.

regardless,

i feel i must now allow a moment of silence for my newly obsolete OS 10.3.9 .

ah, the 10.3.9. only a mere <more than> nine months ago it was the pinnacle of human achievement. if i had been pregnant then, by now my F1 progeny would be born with no indication that 10.3.9 ever existed, but for the occasional impotent caterwaulings from similar mac die-hards who cannot afford bi-annual upgrades, neither to their computing devices, nor to their wardrobes.

i did not even have this operating system long enough to figure out just what sort of big cat it was — some type of quickly aging panther, i suspect, one with a face suddenly gone grey and floppy feet. perhaps it was only a wild-type mutant, now genetically bottlenecked in a few clattery laptops that will most probably never meet.

a moment to remember the apple of yore. when it was ‘your’ apple. it has been a long journey from our first apple store, where my mother drove me to get the apple IIe (macintosh). 25 years? well, sure there have been updates. but we didn’t mind so much, as we felt our current OS was properly supported. and we bought the new one when we could afford it, after it had a few months lead time to sort out the bugs.

so what is in 10.4 and 10.5? increased functionality, if i was to hazard a guess. tiger, is it? clouded leopard?

when i was approached to upgrade, i didn’t have the money, so i figured i would wait the usual year, to, you know, let the bugs get sorted out. upgrading with mac has become a steep learning curve. hey – i am still reeling from 9.2 (wasn’t that the buggy one?). not to mention how desperately i cling to quicktime 7.0.3, as i once quite innocently agreed to an automatic update which rescinded my (paid) pro status and ability to view fullscreen without mention. it took me hours to get my old version back.
yet these and other mishaps i blithely shrugged away, as i still felt secure in the swaddle of apple-y support. i didn’t even break fragile items when i heard about the intel processor.

but now, today, with no support for my OS, not even for the company browser? (apparently i am able to get safari 3 with one of the next two OSes. was there not recently some chatter about bundling browsers with OSes, or was i dreaming that?)

i am stunned.

my future browsing hopes are suddenly placed with third party apps/devgroups. which is ok, but does not bode well for the (now near) future, as who could possibly keep up with this pace set by apple? will firefox be able to remain cross OSX? and OSXI? at this rate, OSXI (andean mountain cat) should be expected later this year. i will know of its existence (a) when steve jobs again is splattered across youtube raising YA shiny new object towards the heavens, and (b) when my sisters again ask me to pitch in for the new OS and yet again i do not have the money.

tiddlyspot for mac

February 13, 2008

works in firefox and camino.

firefox has tiddlysnip – very useful.

tiddlyspot does not show up in safari or ie:mac on 10.3.9

safari crash

February 13, 2008

well at least i managed to crash something! trying to load my tiddlyspot crashes safari whatever version i have. safari could not read tiddlyspot when i first got one. it showed a blank page.

10.3.9 tiddlyspotters, i say use firefox, and hope tiddlysnip becomes more universal. or wait for the 200-300 clones to arrive.

i make a blog

February 13, 2008

in tiddlyspot, like benjam just did, (i am on firefox now)

but after first entry, (tiddler made online from ‘new journal’ link on old blogtag tiddler)

well, after that it said in a roll-down screen how my username and password do not match.

there is definitely a password issue with this and firefox.

i’ll try camino

(funny thing is that for a moment i thought i could switch this window between the two.)
