this year, 2008, i planted garlic today. it seems late, i know, but it did not seem likw winter in october. i could have planted corn in october, and the corn in the fields grew almost knee-high before it froze in late november. only two light snows, and much warm weather. but then i knew i had to get it in the ground, as there was a few days of hard freeze last week, and now warm southy breezes and some rain.
this is also why it is a good time to rake sand traps, as the weeds were sprouting, but small, and uprooted easily.
so i don’t know if it was a good time for the garlic, as most people start planting in october. maybe this is my instinct.
as i walked into the yard with straw mulch, i startled a large flock of geese, who were heading south with what i thought was long-distance determination, then seemed to veer. a long ribbony flock swerving slightly, ripples of winged bodies and clatterous honkage.
